Bird Site Migration

Screenshot of ardsbirds.atspace.comThis morning I migrated my garden birdwatching website from my old host, 110mb.com to, Ards Birds with Atspace.com.
Those of you who have visited my main site before, will quickly spot the new branding logo on all my pages - matching the new icon sited in the address bar of your browser.
The accompanying garden birdwatching forum - Bird Chat, also got a logo makeover to match the main site.
Anyone interested in joining our small band of garden birdwatchers is more than welcome and, it's FREE to join!

A Must For Birders

DVD ROM Guide to British Garden Birds version 8I recently received my eagerly awaited copy of the wonderful DVD ROM Guide to British Garden Birds version 8 from my friend, Russell Slack, of Bird Guides Ltd and on arrival immediately installed it on my PC.
What a joy!
I can honestly say, it's an ingenious piece of 'birding' software and if I've whet your appetite, here's what you'll get.

The DVD-ROM Guide to British Birds Version 8 includes:

* Brand new software based on BWPi - now it's even easier to compare any images or sounds and to view the superb artwork and video clips at any size.
* Over 1,200 video clips running for 5 hours - in other words almost twice as much video footage as in Version 7 of this title.
* All video clips re-edited and reprocessed to provide even better image quality, viewable at any size.
* Coverage of all 334 species seen over 100 times in Britain and Ireland since 1958.
* Songs and/or calls of almost every species.
* Illustrations of every species by top artists such as Alan Harris and John Gale.
* Updated BirdFile text includes the latest population details.
* Revised commentaries by Dave Gosney, including some that have been revised to reflect recent distribution changes.
* Includes the facility to maintain your own bird lists and add your own notes.
* Future support for adding your own photos and integrating with the Internet.
Special Offer: buy The DVD-ROM Guide to British Birds version 8 at £49.95 and get The CD-ROM Guide to Garden Birds (RRP £14.95) for FREE!

Amazingly, all of this is available on just one DVD-ROM, and it's compatible with both Windows (98, ME, NT, 2000, XP) and Macintosh OSX.

"Good Morning, Mr..."

Magpie on my lawnJust around daybreak I was awakened by rather loud and familiar clacking sounds coming from outside my bedroom window.
After rubbing my eyes I moved towards the window to investigate and my suspicions were confirmed.
Three magpies were, almost in unison, bellowing out their alarm call from high in the nearby Japanese Cherry tree.
The reason for this became apparent as I surveyed further down the tree where a young domestic cat was in the process of climbing the trunk.
When it heard me opening the window it took off sharply across the neglected lawn of the vacant bungalow behind my house.
About twenty minutes later I managed to take a picture of a solitary magpie skipping across my lawn - as the photo on this page confirms.

Publicity In The Local Press

It was great to see my garden birdwatching website get a little mention on page nine (9) of the Newtownards Chronicle (issue dated: 13/09/2007). Hopefully it will inspire others to visit and sign up for the associated garden birdwatching forum.
